German Contest Trophy 2008: We finish 6th place

In the German Contest Trophy 2008, multi-operator section, we finish 6th. This is the worst result of the last years, despite piling up more and more points every year: Competition gets tougher, and we are surpassed by other stations putting much effort in this trophy. Still, we are the best-ranked station running only 5 bands, while the stations in front of us are running much more microwave-bands or even laser-light communication. So, we have to be still satisfied. We are using our winter break now for some improvements and replacement of broken/worn out things, and will happily return in 2009 for another year of VHF/UHF/SHF/Microwave-Contesting from JO30EM. Stay tuned for DR5A!

Post #100, September contest and a nice surprise

First of all, this is post #100 on this page. I am very happy we made it that far, are attracting around 100 different viewers each day and there is no signs of it coming to an end. More contest participations of DR5A and more posts will follow :-).

For the upcoming september contest, we will again go up one notch higher than in July: This time we will combine our usual 4×9el vertically stacked yagi system with a second system of 4 vertically stacked BigWheel antennas, giving our positive July-experience with 2 BigWheels a 3dB boost :-). We hope to have much fun with that new system.

And finally, a nice surprise: According to the German DARC club journal “CQ-DL”, in June contest we made the best DX of all DL stations that sent in their log on 3cm: 617km with OE5VRL, followed by DM7A with a 610km QSO, and on 3rd place again us with 604km to OK1KJB. That was quite unexpected, as we do not feel we have a very good QTH for 3cm work. But when the clouds for RS are right, it just works :-).

Audio Recordings of DX QSOs in September Contest

Finally i prepared the audio snippets of all the DX-QSOs > 800km we made during the September Contest. During the night, we started to have some gaps and skips in the recording, so at times especially our CW sounds very distorted or plain wrong. That is only in the recordings, and not due to our faulty keying :-). Enjoy!

GM4ZUK/p IO86RW 922km SSB, becoming a regular (371kb)
OM3CQF JN88RT 820km SSB (231kb)
G4LOH IO70JC 824km SSB, with some intentional QRMing, but he easily beats it (164kb)
F8DBF IN78RI 825km mixed CW/SSB (602kb)
S57C JN76PB 825km SSB, rather weak (285kb)
SN9D JN99MQ 908km SSB, big signal! (181kb)
OM50KHE JN99JC 904km SSB, easy (309kb)
OM8A JN87WV 884km CW, not easy (797kb)
9A5Y JN85PO 977km CW (474kb)
S57O JN86DT 836km CW, not easy (958kb)
OK2KJT JN99AJ 844km SSB, quick’n'easy (177kb)
ED1RCM IN73TA 1167km SSB, not strong but on a clear QRG (272kb)
S51ZO JN86DR 842km CW unfortunately not recorded
OK2KYC JN99BM 846km CW (350kb)
Starting from here severe gaps and skips in the recordings:
OM3W JN99CG 859km CW (393kb)
OK2KRT JN99CL 853km CW (355kb)
OM3KOM JN98DV 875km CW (476kb)
OM3KII JN88UU 836km CW (452kb)
OM5M JN88SS 827km CW, a long long fight, but finally successful (1.21mb)
I4XCC JN63GV 871km SSB (255kb)
EA2BFM/p IN83FE 1109km SSB, strong! (270kb)
F5FLN/p IN94UT 807km SSB (225kb)

If your QRB to us is below 800km, but you want to know how you sounded at JO30EM, just drop me a line, and i will extract our QSO from our recordings.
