October 2007

What a nice contest! Just on time, we experienced a "golden autumn" weekend with sun, nice temperatures (beside during the night when it got really cold), a clear night-sky with a breathtaking view of the stars and very nice conditions. We were afraid we would be handicapped by a shortage of operators, but DB1EPO and DF1BN jumped in on sunday and helped us to keep all stations running as much as possible. Thank you, guys! Judging from the forecasts, we expected lifted condx to G or F, but it could not be more different: western directions were average to below-average, while during the night hours we got a very nice lift to the east and south-east on 70cm and 23cm. On 70cm, that lead to logging 9A, 4x HA and 2x YO, all "new ones" on 70cm. 23cm got a nice number of OK in the log. So we finally scored new all time records for QSO-number, score , average-per-QSO and number of squares on 70cm, and new all time records for QSO-number (by far!), score (by far!), countries worked, squares and ODX (thank you, guys of OM50KHE!) on 23m. 13cm score was average with a good number of QSOs, and 3cm worked well too, with DM7A worked for the first time ever. The only downside was losing the 13cm preamp sometime on sunday morning, resulting in inacceptable deafness on that band, so that only 3 QSOs (all < 150km) could be worked on sunday. Without that, 13cm would have been also quite impressive. Now, the audio recordings of QSOs above 800km on 70cm are online, too!
